Happy 4th

We spent the day in Hot Springs. It really is my favorite way to spend the 4th. I think it is a day to swim and be a little lazy and eat meals at times you would not normally eat them- it was a good day. The only sad part is the boys were so tired by the time we left that we missed out on fireworks, which I do love. Still lots of fun, so happy 4th, hope your day was just what you needed it to be.

PS Thanks Nate for the song, We do miss you and your love of the USA.

Lucy's shower

Today we had a shower for Amy and baby Lucy. It was really fun to see all the girly things. I just thought I would share a few pics cause it was all so cute, including Amy.

June's Basket

We just arrived home last night from a little trip to Kansas City, just in time for our BAM pick up. This is very important to me because picking up the basket is really half the fun. The boys and I went to pick it up and also get some lunch. We ended up killing some time waiting for a raspberry drop off and I am happy to report it was well worth the wait. Now to get down to business here is what we got his month....
1 pint blackberries
1 pint raspberries
peaches
6 ears of corn
small watermelon
1 cantaloupe
bag of veggies (peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, onion, squash)
dozen eggs
1 lb. cheese
Japanese cucumber
1 lb. buffalo ground beef, I don't know what that means, but I am sure it is wonderful.

Yummy, it's not to late, go get it- you know you want to. Happy eating!

Movies

pete's blog #2. my first one was Kenya, so obviously it was going to take something very important to get me back on here (no offense to whitney or any of you folks publishing pictures of baskets and stuff).

my movie list. categories are the hardest for me. so cut me some slack and know i have lots of different influences in this category...

10 best movies for me representing different categories and huge things that were either very original, well-done, or influential in my life... you get the idea:

Shakespeare in Love
Oceans Eleven
Reality Bites
Romeo and Juliet
Donnie Darko
Can't Hardly Wait
Empire Records
Happy Texas
Good Will Hunting
Kicking and Screaming (1995--no will farrell on this list)

movies you should have seen (so with the appropriate content warning, you should really just dump all of these on your netflix queue and thank me later... if you don't like me after the first 5 than we have different taste in movies and you should delete the rest):

DRAMA:

Amelie
The Chorus
Duets
Grand Canyon
Moonlight Mile
Mumford
On a Clear Day
Sidewalks in New York
American Splendor
Spanglish
The United States of Leland
Donnie Darko
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Luther
Possession
Playing By Heart
Kicking and Screaming

COMEDY/ROMANTIC COMEDY:

Waiting for Guffman
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
The Pallbearer
Since You've Been Gone
Happy Texas
Thank You For Smoking
If Lucy Fell
An Ideal Husband
Playing by Heart
Music From Another Room

ACTION:

The Professional
Italian Job
Gattaca
Snatch

In conclusion, movies like Casino Royale, Gladiator, Braveheart are all wonderful movies, but they just don't quite make my list because they are too mainstream, too hyped up, or just didn't hit me just right. Happy viewing! ---Pete

a little trip

Every once in a while I really need something to break up the week, especially in the summer when life happens without much of a schedule. This week Alison and I decided we would do that by heading to Hot Springs for about 24 hours. Plus Simon had just gotten a new car seat for his birthday and it really needed a test drive.

We did some eating, playing, swimming- all around a good break from the norm. I say that and then think eating, playing and swimming are kind of what we always do, but this was a change of atmosphere.

Date problems

PS: I guess the dates should be ignored on my blog because they are always wrong. Simon and Kyah's party was Wed. 6-20 and the Fathers Day post was actually on Fathers Day. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?

Happy Birthday

Today we celebrated Simon and Kyah's birthdays. They are both 1 and oh so cutie. It was a really good time. I love to see their faces as they discover the cake. What is this? and why is everyone watching me as I eat it? Then they dig in, all topped of with two very cute smiles.

Happy Birthday!

Daddy

Thank you to the Dads in my life.
To my dad who has always loved me without condition, you gave me confidence and helped me believe in love.
To my dad in law who, without knowing it, taught me how to love my heavenly father and continues to teach me.
To my children's daddy who is my friend and partner, it is a joy to watch you love our children.
To my Heavenly Father who created these other men, you are my strength, may I rest in you.
Happy Fathers Day!
Peter loved wearing this hat. Wilson and Campbell and I crafted it. Don't worry, we did not make him leave the house in it.

I've been Bitten

I have always loved Sarah Jessica Parker, I would put Girls Just Want to Have Fun in my list of favorite movies, which I will do soon. Plus she is married to Matthew Broderick, whom I also really enjoy. And now to add to the list of things I love about her is her new line of clothing, BITTEN. There are many strange things about the line..1. It is sold exclusively at Steve and Barry's- never heard of it? It's not because it is some high end store only in Europe, New york, LA.. it is because the only one in Arkansas, to my knowledge, is in the Hot Springs mall..2. Everything in the line is under $20, No smart comment- that is just exciting..3. It fits, it is not just made for those fortunate enough to look like SJP.
I always thought if SJP made a line it would either be in a store I couldn't afford or so weird I couldn't wear it. My only hope was H&M, that maybe like Madonna she would design some things that would be sold for an affordable price at H&M, which is a great store, but only in large cities. That is actually what this is like. Steve and Barry's is nothing I would write home about, but then there is the oasis that is Bitten. Cute tops, great T's, shoes, jewelry, bags. Enough advertising, I'm just saying check it out if you come across a Steve and Barry's or at bittensjp.com.

7 weird things, 2 weeks late

So 2 or more weeks ago I was tagged by Jerusalem to list 7 weird things about myself. I didn't really know what this meant and I have been pretty in and out lately so I am finally getting to it, though I realize at this point no one cares, I will let you know anyway.

7. I am afraid of computers. Not in the way where I have bad dreams about them, but I don't know how to use them and so they scare me.

6. I don't like to go in the bathroom with my shoes on. I do like to wear them in public bathrooms.

5. I eat saltine crackers with mayonnaise. I also like hot dogs.

4. I can touch my tongue to my nose. My stupid human trick.

3. I can't wear brown and black together. It use to be a fashion no no, but now it is okay. I just can't do it.

2. I can't spell. I find this weird because I did graduate from college and you would think spelling would really be learned at some point. Also weird because I did pretty well in my fourth grade spelling bee. I also use this as justification for not being able to home school my kids. ( I would not have been able to correctly spell the words mayonnaise, lately, or justification without spellcheck)

1. I just don't think i am that weird. Probably the weirdest thing on the list.

Now I am suppose to tag some other people to do this, because of number 7 I really don't know how to do that thing where I put someones name and you can click it and go straight to them, so I will just say please make a list if you would like, I will read it.

Summertime

It is officially summertime in Arkansas, so I guess it is summertime everywhere, but it is hot and so the boys have started being without a shirt whenever possible. And preferably in a swimsuit and near water. Campbell and I stopped by Pete's parents house this evening and were sweetly invited to join in the fun. The older Chino boys were playing with the water hose and the little guys played with cars in the driveway. I love being outside at this time of day, sitting in lawn chairs in the front yard- it's the best. The boys all had a blast, my favorite was watching Cole explain all the different ways to spray Julie's hose- it's pretty fancy, I especially like the mist setting.

Happy Anniversary Fellowship

Fellowship turned 23 on Sunday and we had a big party. I love a party and i love my church, and it was potluck and had games, two other things I love. Overall just a good time.
